University of Wollongong

UOW Medicine is a CASPer plus bonuses game.

UOW uses GPA and GAMSAT as hurdles. After that, interview ranking is driven by CASPer and UOW MD Admissions bonuses.

MMI lens

UOW MMI talking points: regional commitment, longitudinal rural learning and community partnership.

UOW is explicit about regional, rural and remote health. In an interview, the question is not whether you can say rural medicine matters, but whether you understand relocation, community trust and workforce need realistically.

Regional and rural missionUOW aims to enrol applicants with personal qualities for medicine and commitment to health outcomes in regional, rural and remote Australia.
Distributed campuses and hubsTeaching occurs across Wollongong, Shoalhaven or Southern Highlands campuses and eight rural hubs.
Longitudinal integrated clerkshipThe program includes a 12-month integrated clinical clerkship, with all domestic students experiencing Phase 3 in a regional or rural location.
Community-engaged clinical learningLocal medical practitioners and other health professionals are extensively involved across hospitals, clinics, general practice and community settings.
Interview angle: For UOW, show that your rural commitment is practical: social determinants, continuity, relocation, community relationships and readiness to learn where the workforce need is greatest.

Why UOW Is Different

For UOW, a high traditional combo does not automatically carry the application once the hurdles are cleared. The applicant's CASPer result and bonus evidence become the main ranking levers for interview.

The Key2MD calculator models UOW separately from the normal combo schools. It checks GPA/GAMSAT hurdles and estimates the combined CASPer plus bonus profile using the 50/50 interview-ranking structure.

UOW Bonus Areas To Check

What Students Miss

Students often over-focus on GAMSAT for UOW. Once the hurdle is met, a stronger CASPer and more valid bonuses are more relevant than chasing a slightly higher overall GAMSAT.
